Stranahan’s Rocky Mountain Single Malt Whiskey tells BourbonBlog.com they have released the new Stranahan’s Sherry Cask as a permanent addition to their whiskey portfolio.

Watch our video interview above with Master Distiller Rob Dietrich as BourbonBlog.com had an early preview and taste of the barrel proof version of  Sherry Cask this past summer at Stranahan’s Distillery in Denver during their Cask Thief Festival.

As Sherry Cask is not limited edition, enthusiasts will be able to find it through the year at the retail price of $79.99 (94 proof/750ml)

Sherry Cask is the first release of its kind for Stranahan’s using the Rocky Mountain whiskey making style with the winemaking traditions of Spanish Sherry.

Rob’s approach to tasting and analyzing unique barrel finishes is a passion he calls “coloring outside the lines.” He practices this throughout the year as he creates the coveted Stranahan’s Snowflake.

In a quest to maintain the sacredness of each annual Snowflake release, Rob began to experiment with cask finishing in just one type of wine barrel: the Oloroso Sherry.

After years of experimentation with aging and unique cask finishes, Master Distiller Rob Dietrich developed Sherry Cask by taking his four year-aged Rocky Mountain Single Malt whiskey and transferred it to 500-liter Oloroso Sherry barrels to finish. The barrels are procured from the Andalusia region of southwestern Spain, known as the “Sherry Triangle.”

These barrels have aged sherry wine for over 40 years, leaving behind a depth of flavor soaked into the ancient oak staves. The magic trapped in the barrels delivers powerful flavor to the finish on Stranahan’s Sherry Cask Whiskey.

“We tested the Oloroso Sherry cask-finished whiskey last year at our first annual Cask Thief festival and our fans and family loved it,”  Rob Dietrich tells us. “That’s when we knew we had to bring it to the national market

As Stranahan’s was founded in 2004, BourbonBlog.com has been following the distillery and their growth since their early days. Stranahan’s is now the largest selling American Single Malt whiskey,
