Habanero Hot Pepper RecipeWe’ve seen and tasted our number of Blood Marys on BourbonBlog.com, and recently on our Bourbon twitter account @bourbonblog , a follower suggested a new creation made with Laphroaig. As they tell us, “a drink like this should come with government warnings, no matter if you make it with Laphroaig or not.” We do recommend Laphroaig for sipping, but for those of you who are fan of our own Bloody Eye cocktail creation, try and post your comments below…

Habanero Bloody Mary

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Whisky
A can of tomatoes (Italian)
½ a Habanero Pepper (or perhaps a quarter or less will do for most)’
Sugar

Laphroaig 10 yearDirections:

Combine tomato and juice, add sugar to taste and top off with “quite a bit of Laphroaig” (approx 8 ounces) ice and blend. This should yield several servings.

Special thanks to Steffen Bräuner and Morten Sams who created this recipe, inspired in part they say by a recipe from the Quaich Bar at Craigellachie Hotel of Speyside, Scotland which offers 700 whiskies.

It’s a shame to do this to any scotch. It’s not meant for that. Whiskey is meant for sipping or subduing lightly with ice, seltzer, or club soda. Take Sobieski vodka and make some good bloody marys.

I don’t think the point of this recipe is to emulate the classic Bloody Mary recipe. I’m very interested to try this variation.
