Bourbon Series Class in Louisville by Hawthorne Beverage Group

Josh Durr mixologistThe Hawthorne Beverage Group invites you to in depth Bourbon Classes that teach Bourbon production, Bourbon classes, and hands on Bourbon cocktails, and even hands on distilling in Bourbon at The Silver Dollar. They are partners in on the project as well as the Distilled Spirits Epicenter.
Join them on Thursday April, 25  (4/25) at 6 pm in the private speakeasy-style space above the Silver Dollar, hip honky-tonk bar in a renovated fire station on Historic Frankfort Avenue.

Fun Fact: they have a selection of 70+ Kentucky bourbons and ryes, one of the largest in the city.  Yep, that’s why we we love them and you will too.

The Hawthorne Beverage Group, leaders in the spirits consulting and marketing, will be there to provide hands-on bourbon cocktails how-tos, try saying that 5 times in a row.

They’ll also provide more in depth bourbon history to add to your bourbon trivia skills.  Sounds amazing huh?  And the best part is this is an interactive course, so that means you get to taste your very own cocktail creations  and debate on the best cocktail in the class.  All while socializing with the coolest new folks in town. Sold yet?

How to purchase tickets:

Bourbon womenTickets are $35 per person and space is limited, so get on it. and purchase tickets on this link http://www.eventbrite.com/event/5835198235/eorg

Be prepared to walk away with some awesome bourbon swag too, cause we’re cool like that.

Following the event, head downstairs to our own reserved section at the whiskey bar to test out your mad, new cocktails skills…well maybe not, we’ll leave that one to the professionals.

But you will get to drink the professional version of your favorite bourbon cocktail and you’ll have a group of new found friends to share your experience with.

They’ll have drink specials, of course bourbon will be at the top of the list with some light bites.

Woodford Reserve Celebrates 200th Anniversary of Distillery

Woodford Reserve 200th Anniversary Bottle

Woodford Reserve Distillery tells BourbonBlog.com that the story of distilling in Woodford County began in 1797 when Elijah Pepper set up a distillery in the county seat of Versailles.

In 1812 he moved his operation to a location on the Grassy Springs Branch of Glenn’s Creek where the Woodford Reserve Distillery now stands. Pepper’s son, Oscar, built the current distillery building in 1838 and it was there the process of crafting bourbon was perfected.  The distillery was purchased by Labrot and Graham in the late 1800s and retained that name until 2004 when it was renamed The Woodford Reserve Distillery.

In present day, the distillery is much like it was in the 1800’s, right down to the cypress-wood fermenters and copper pot stills. The same Five Sources of Bourbon Flavor used two centuries ago are still used to craft the award winning taste of Woodford Reserve Distillers Select.

As 2012 marks the 200th anniversary of fine whiskey distilling on the historic site, they’re celebrating this milestone with exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to the birthplace of bourbon including many historical relics left on the property.

The Woodford Reserve Distillery will be offering specialty tours for one week only as well as a Bourbon Feast to toast the occasion. More information about these events are below.

Woodford Reserve Bourbon Distillery

Special Public Distillery Tours:

Woodford Reserve ToursAugust 27-August 30th from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM each day

The year 2012 marks the 200th anniversary of fine whiskey distilling on our historic site, here at what is currently called the Woodford Reserve Distillery.

But long before we began making our premium small batch Distiller’s Select bourbon here, a cast of historical figures developed and owned the property, all the while laying the foundation for and perfecting the methods of making bourbon.

As part of the tour, view the 200 year-old Pepper House, an original Spring House, the original distillery site and so much more.  This intense two-hour hike will also include a tour of the present day distillery, a variety of unique whiskey tastings and a gourmet 1812 era lunch provided by Chef in Residence, Ouita Michel and her culinary team.

This history hike is being offered Monday, August 27th – Thursday, August 30th from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM each day.   The cost is $125 per person and you must be 21 or older to attend.  Reservations are required and must be made by calling859-879-1934. This hike will either be delayed or postponed if inclement weather occurs.

Bio(s)

Since their self-titled debut album launched in 2010, the Grammy-nominated group has climbed the country charts with hits like “Hip to My Heart,” “If I Die Young” and “All My Life.” Their second single “If I Die Young” hit No. 1 atop the Billboard Hot Country Top 20 Charts and was nominated as single, song and music video of the year in 2011. The album’s fourth single, “All Your Life,” also topped the country chart for the band’s second No. 1 ranking. The album went platinum and the band has garnered numerous awards like Top New Artist from the Academy of Country Music and Song of the Year from the Country Music Association. The trio is also nominated for Vocal Group of the Year at the 2012 Academy of Country Music awards on April 1.

Fresh off of a tour with Grammy Award-winner Taylor Swift, South Carolina-bred NEEDTOBREATHE will open for The Band Perry. Their knack for crowd-pleasing performances has made the band one of the most sought-after live acts on tour today. The group has charted hits on mainstream rock and pop radio, and counts among their influences U2, Wilco, Pearl Jam and Tom Petty. Along with rave reviews from USA Today, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Relix, VH1, Associated Press and Billboard, The Salt Lake Tribune simply calls the band’s newest album The Reckoning “The best rock album of 2011 … full of passionate anthems poised to fill arenas.”

We average 1000 people a month participating in our Wellness programs and social activities, have served over 266,000 meals from our 26 meal sites in the past year, receive over 500 calls a month to our Resource
