Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey of Denver tells BourbonBlog.com that their 2017 Quandary Peak Snowflake Release is named after the 14,265-foot peak that graces the majestic Rocky Mountains.

This annual limited release is only sold at the Denver distillery and attracts out hundreds of fans who are often reported to camp outside Stranahan’s Distillery for up to 48 hours. They arrive early to ensure their place in line to get a ticket to buy a bottle. Each person is able to get 2 tickets that are each redeemable for the purchase of one bottle at $99.99 / 750 ml bottle. As pictured below, the tickets are passed out and the whiskey sold on a first-come, first served basis.

As we type this story, only hours remain until these “Stranafans” will be able to buy a bottle of this 20th Release of Stranahan’s Snowflake.

This particular edition of Snowflake is first aged for over two years in virgin white American oak barrels with a #3 char, then transferred to cask-age into a variety of used barrels including:

Rum casks
Cognac cask
Madeira cask
Sangiovese cask
Port cask

Master Distiller Rob Dietrich says his toast to the lucky enthusiasts lined up who get a bottle of Snowflake is  “It is not always about the destination, but the adventure along the way that got you there.”
