WhistlePig 12 Year Old World WhiskeyWhistlePig tells BourbonBlog.com that they will launch the new Old World 12-year-Old a 86 proof (43% ABV) t the end of June 2015.

BourbonBlog.com was the first to bring you a taste of the Old World story nearly a year ago as we interviewed WhistlePig Founder Raj Bhakta in the video interview above.

A variety of “old world” wine barrels” finished this older expression of WhistlePig Rye Whiskey. Bhakta told us last summer that the 12-year-old expression of WhistlePig by was still being perfected by finishing it in used Sauternes, Madeira, Port, Cognac and other “old world” wine barrels.

“These were the best casks we could find in Europe,” explained Bhakta. “We are combining the best of the new world with the greatest traditions of the old world.”

We can’t yet reveal the final composition selected by WhistlePig, but we will share it soon on BourbonBlog.com. This whiskey is the culmination of years of experimentation by Master Distiller Dave Pickerell to finish 12-year-old rye whiskey balanced composition of a variety of wine finishes.

The wine barrel finishes were released individually as the Old World Series in limited quantities this spring. The Old World 12-year-old hits store shelves in late June 2015. While it will be a permanent line extension, it is a limited release.
